Like many other countries, Slovenia has toll roads. However, what is less common is that since 2022, the vignette is only available digitally. The so-called E-Vinjeta makes it much easier for all drivers in Slovenia. With us, you can get the digital vignette in just a few steps and immediately download it.
You can get the E-Vinjeta right here with us. Our online shop guides you step-by-step through the process. You must provide the following information:
Once the ordering process is complete, you will receive a confirmation from us. This will be sent to you via email. Once you have received the vignette from us, it is immediately valid, and you can use Slovenia's toll roads without any issues.
In Slovenia, there are various toll classes, which are determined by the size of the vehicles. Here's how these classes are structured:
And one more tip: If you're not sure which class your vehicle falls into, it's worth checking the list provided by the Slovenian highway company DARS. Here you will find a (non-exhaustive) list of vehicles and their corresponding classes.
The digital vignette can be purchased online in advance as well as at border-near gas stations and DARS sales points. However, it is advisable to take care of the vignette before starting your trip. This saves you time and stress on the road.
In Slovenia, you can purchase the E-Vignette for three different periods: 7 days, one month, or one year. For the toll class, there is a special feature here. Instead of a monthly vignette, a 6-month vignette is available.
You can pre-date the vignette by up to one month. This way, you can prepare well in advance of your trip. An important innovation is the annual pass. It is no longer tied to a calendar year. Instead, it is valid for 12 consecutive months.
But be careful: The vignette is valid from the first day. So if you plan a trip from Friday to the next Friday, that totals 8 days.
Those who fail to comply with the vignette requirement for highways and expressways face fines ranging from 300 € to 800 €. The amount depends on how long you have been driving on a toll road without a vignette and what type of vehicle you are driving. Repeat offenders, who have been caught without a vignette in the last 24 months, are often fined even more.
Enforcement is conducted through vehicles as well as fixed cameras. Here, one should not hope for lax controls. In Slovenia, the police are strict about such violations.
Those who are unable to pay or unwilling to do so must expect their driver's license to be confiscated until the fine is paid. Compared to these - quite hefty - penalties, the cost of the vignette is a bargain.
Good to know: The E-Vignette is valid only for a specific vehicle, not for you personally! Changing cars during your trip to Slovenia without buying an additional vignette is therefore not possible.
We advise against it. Not only are the alternatives often poorly signposted, but it also simply takes much longer. Additionally, many areas in the immediate vicinity of the highways are also toll-charged. This applies, for example, to roundabouts. Especially in these border areas, the police are particularly vigilant and can impose fines. It doesn't matter whether you accidentally enter such an area - you will still have to pay.
You can find the list with all vehicles of toll class 2B here. If your vehicle is not listed, the needed toll class will be 2A. Caravans belong to toll class 2A. Motorcycles (track/tyre width not wider than 50cm) fall under toll class 1. The principles of toll class classification and measurement method in Slovenia can be found in our FAQ.
